Featuring the oil of Joana & João Oliveira
João Oliveira in his own words:
Two generations . . . a single thought
When two generations of the same family get together to change the world, they do so one step at a time. It started with a single vision to produce the finest olive oil in the world. For João and daughter Joana, the making of olive oil is a sacred tradition steeped in the history of the land the beautiful rolling ridges of Northern Portugal.

"As a person with lengthy experience as a chemical engineer, I have been very aware of the impact man has made on the environment. We started thinking years ago that we needed to reduce, and whenever possible, eliminate the use of chemicals in our fanrming, before it was too late. This is important not only for the product itself, but also for the by-products we have to reject, recycle or eliminate.
So we decided to change our approach to farming about 15 years ago, and began a completely different form of agriculture production with the goal of producing exceptional, natural products and preserving the environment around us.
Beginning with great success in our vineyards, we made a commitment to continue and extend this philosophy to our olive trees, and ultimately to our low acid, organic olive oil.
This has not been a simple decision or process. We
had to change not only our way of thinking, but also that of
the people who help us in our production. The techniques we employ
are new to many who have worked with us throughout the past few
decades. We have had to try new methods, equipment and thinking,
but we are pleased that the transition has been so successful.
The quality of our products and the opportunity to influence other farmers of the Trás-os-Montes region, gives us the feeling that we have contributed to the expansion of organic, ecological farming, while making the world a slightly better place.
I am truly proud that my daughter Joana has been involved with me in making these decisions. We are working together as a great team to produce what we believe may be the finest olive oil in the world."
