After moving from Germany to Australia in 1988, Knut and Mia Kammann, bought a country retreat west of the famous World Heritage listed Blue Mountains, on New South Wales' Central Ranges. South of the wine growing area of Mudgee, they found a small property, 2000 feet above sea level with a typical Australian bush cottage and a beautiful man-made lake, surrounded by rugged sandstone cliffs.

The small lake has become a beautiful nature reserve with an abundance of native fauna and flora. Black swans, Ibis, Pelicans, Platypus, Cormorants, Musk duck, Yabbies, Trout, Wedge Tail Eagles, Kookaburras, Parrots, Cockatoos, Kangaroos, Wombats, Echidnas and many other animals enjoy the peace, freedom and the abundance of food.

In 1995, Knut and Mia purchased an adjoining property and secured irrigation rights next to the lake. This allows them to irrigate their groves without ecological impact to the lake.

As lovers of olive trees and the taste and health benefits of olive products, in 1996,they decided to plant olive trees to enhance the quality of the land. In keeping with the names of the surrounding properties, the 'Lake' turned into 'Lakelands'. The Kammanns are pioneers for high altitude, cool climate olive productions west of the Blue Mountains.

Hours of bliss and frustration have turned Knut and Mia's vision into passion. The oils produced at Lakelands are considered the finest organic olive oils produced in Australia.

In 2004, in addition to their established Australian organic/biodynamic certification, the oils from Lakelands Olives received organic certification for the USA. They were also certified as Kosher for the USA.

The Kammanns are true pioneers! Try their different oils for yourself to compare and enjoy!

In growing our olives organically, we seek to work with nature rather than against it, aiming to achieve a system that is healthy and sustainable...

Excessive use of chemicals like herbicides, pesticides and some fertilizers in 'modern agriculture' may contaminate soil and water and endanger animals and humans. Recent research links these chemicals to cancer and other diseases.

Organic farming is still mainly based upon labor-intensive practices such as weeding by hand, composting, mulching and other traditional techniques.

Organic farmers know that they must reintroduce and maintain areas with biodiversity and encourage life with an abundance of nutrients in the soil, which produces healthy plants.

Healthy plants which are well supplied with minerals can make all the flavor producing substances they need.

Many chefs use organic foods because they are well cared for during their production and simply taste better.

Since 1999 we are following strictly controlled organic farm management principles. In May 2002, we have been certified 'Grade A Organic' by Biological Farmers of Australia (BFA), an Australian government- regulated, certifying organization.

We decided, in 2001, to incorporate Biodynamic farming principles based on standards set by Biodynamic AgriCulture Australia. We were certified BioDynamic in June 2004 by ACO, a subsidiary of BFA.

Our oil has been certified Kosher by NSW Kashrut Authority Inc, and Halal by the Halal Certification Authority Australia. We will continually strive to meet the latest requirements for food standards and safety.

It is our vision and commitment to develop a truly sustainable natural and ecological agriculture in our grove. Following our principles, all our glass bottles and corrugated packaging are made from recycled materials.

Lakeland Olives organic olive oils... reflect the varietal characteristics and maturity of the olives used, resulting in distinctive and exciting flavors. They are best used as dressings and for delicate cooking.

Be innovative and explore the flavor of Lakelands oils on pasta, fish, in vegetable soups, salads, in marinades and with many other healthy and tasty dishes.

Free fatty acids (FFA) are an indicator of oil quality. FFA levels for Extra Virgin oils have to be below 0.8% according to international standards. Lakeland produces oils with FFA levels well below, thus providing oils of the highest quality.

Olive oil deteriorates with exposure to air and light. We recommend keeping it in an air-tight bottle or container protected from heat and light.
